Residential solar can be paid for outright, or spread over up to 60 months at 0% interest through selected banks’ credit card instalment plans, and Solar ATAP credits the energy you export against your TNB bill. Either way, the system is designed to pay for itself over its 25-year life.
Payback and savings figures are estimates for reference only, not a quotation or offer. Actual results depend on the site survey, tariff and usage.
Malaysia’s policy environment is among the most supportive in Southeast Asia for residential solar. A combination of the Solar ATAP programme, 0% bank instalment plans up to 60 months, and individual tax reliefs makes solar accessible with no upfront cost; for a typical RM 400/month bill, the calculator below estimates a payback of about 3 to 4 years (an estimate for reference only).
Launched 1 January 2026 by PETRA. Exported solar energy is credited at the TNB energy charge (monthly credit capped at the energy you import) under an ATAP contract of up to 10 years.
Administered by PETRA and SEDA. Tariff rates, eligibility and programme terms are set by the government and may be revised. Always verify the latest guidelines on the official SEDA portal.
Major Malaysian banks (Maybank, CIMB, RHB, Public Bank and AmBank) offer 0% credit card instalment plans for residential solar. Spread the full system cost across 5 years with zero interest and no hidden fees.
Participating banks, eligible cards and promotional tenures are set by each issuing bank and change over time. Always verify the current offer directly with your card issuer.
Individual income tax relief of up to RM 2,500 per year of assessment for green technology equipment, including solar, EV charging facilities and food waste composting machines. Check LHDN for the relief available in the current year of assessment.
Subject to prevailing LHDN tax legislation. Eligibility and relief amounts may change. Consult a licensed tax adviser for your specific situation. Policy information as of September 2026.
Two clear ways to own your solar system: pay upfront for the best long-term ROI, or spread the cost over up to 60 months at 0% interest through a credit card instalment. Either way, you own the system outright and keep every ringgit of solar savings for the remaining years of its life after it pays itself back.
The best long-term ROI. You pay for the system upfront, own it outright, save from month one, and for a typical RM 400/month bill the calculator estimates a payback of about 3 to 4 years. After that, it’s free electricity for 17+ more years. Pricing is quoted after a site survey.
Spread the full system cost across up to 60 months at 0% interest through major Malaysian bank credit card instalment plans. No separate loan application, no hidden fees. Just divide the system cost by the number of months and pay monthly from an existing credit card. The real payoff compounds once the instalment ends and you keep every ringgit of solar savings for the remaining years of panel life.
Figures on the cards above are illustrative estimates from the calculator on this page for a RM 400/month bill; they are not a quotation. Actual instalment tenures, eligibility, and savings vary by bank, card issuer, and individual consumption pattern. TNB Domestic tariff (effective 1 July 2025): energy 27.03 sen/kWh up to 1,500 kWh/month and 37.03 sen/kWh above 1,500 kWh, capacity 4.55 sen/kWh, network 12.85 sen/kWh, KWTBB (1.6%), and an RM 10 retail charge and 8% service tax on usage above 600 kWh. Under Solar ATAP, exports are credited at the TNB energy charge, with the monthly credit capped at the energy you import (excess forfeited); the residential size limit is 5 kWac single-phase / 15 kWac three-phase (larger systems need a TNB connection check). Energy Efficiency Incentive rebates apply to lower-usage households. Contact us for a personalised quote.
Move the slider to your average monthly TNB bill and see a rough estimate of system size, payback, and 25-year net savings. Calculations use the post-July 2025 TNB Domestic tariff structure and a typical rooftop yield of about 1,250 kWh per kWp per year.

Two short walkthroughs from homeowners who used this exact slider to make their call.
“I’m thinking about solar. Is my roof actually worth it?”
A double-storey link house in PJ with an average RM 450 monthly TNB bill. Slide to 450. On a single-phase supply the system size lands at about 5.8 kWp (the Solar ATAP size limit), with a payback of roughly 3.5–4.3 years; a three-phase supply allows about 9.3 kWp. Enough to commit to a site survey.
5.8 kWp (single-phase) · 3.5–4.3 yr payback · RM 64,083–66,983 net over 25 years · Three-phase: 9.3 kWp, 3.5–4.4 yr, RM 100,045–104,685
“I might sell in 5 years. Will it pay back before then?”
Slide to your bill, then check the payback range. If the figure is under your selling horizon, you break even on operating savings alone. If payback exceeds your horizon, note that a resale premium for solar-ready homes is possible but not guaranteed.
Tip: compare the payback range with how long you plan to stay in the home
The Tans were paying about RM 650/month to TNB for their semi-detached home in Subang Jaya, Selangor, with roughly 1,300 kWh of monthly usage.
In early 2026, they installed an 8 kWp system (14 panels, JA Solar modules with a Sungrow inverter) for about RM 16,000–20,000, financed through a 60-month 0% credit card instalment at about RM 270–340/month.
Self-consumption plus Solar ATAP Energy Charge credits cut their TNB bill to around RM 310/month. During the 5-year instalment, their combined monthly outgoing (TNB bill plus instalment) sits at about RM 580–650.
From year 6 onwards, the instalment ends and they keep the full RM 340/month saving for the remaining 20 years of panel life, totalling more than RM 75,000 in net savings over the system’s 25-year performance warranty.
Illustrative example computed with the ERS calculator (RM 650/month bill, 14 panels, three-phase supply); the system cost is shown as a range. Estimates for reference only, not a quotation or offer; actual results depend on the site survey, tariff and usage.
Answers to the questions homeowners ask most about paying for solar.
Installed cost depends on system size, roof, single- or three-phase supply, equipment and any battery, so ERS Energy quotes after a site survey rather than publishing a per-kWp price. Financing options allow you to start with RM 0 down.
During a 0% instalment period, the monthly payment can be higher than your monthly bill savings, depending on the system price and your bill. Once the instalment ends, the full monthly saving accrues for the remaining years of the system’s life. In the calculator above, a RM 400/month bill gives a payback of about 3.3–4.3 years and 25-year net savings (after system cost) of RM 67,757–94,850, depending on single- or three-phase supply. Cash purchase delivers the fastest payback. These figures are estimates for reference only, not a quotation or offer.
Solar systems transfer with the property and may add to its market value, provided the system is fully owned (cash purchase or completed 0% instalment). A resale premium is possible but not guaranteed.
No. ERS Energy manages the full Solar ATAP application with SEDA and TNB on your behalf as part of the standard installation process, regardless of payment method.
Yes. The green technology equipment tax relief (up to RM 2,500/year; check LHDN for the current year of assessment) applies regardless of payment method and is claimed in the year of assessment when the expenditure is incurred. Qualifying categories are defined by LHDN; please consult a licensed tax adviser to confirm eligibility for your installation.
Minimal. A surface clean 2–4 times per year is usually sufficient, with more frequent cleaning during haze season. Panels carry 25–30-year performance warranties, inverters 5–15 years, and there are no moving parts to wear out. Optional annual maintenance packages cover inspection, cleaning, inverter health checks, and real-time performance monitoring.
Panels carry 25–30-year manufacturer performance warranties (at least 80–84% rated output at year 25). Inverters carry 5–15-year manufacturer warranties depending on brand. Mounting, wiring, and installation quality are covered under ERS Energy’s own workmanship warranty. All components meet IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards, and ERS Energy holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications.
Typically 8–12 weeks from enquiry to energisation: site assessment and proposal (1–2 weeks), financing approval if applicable (1–2 weeks), SEDA and TNB application (4–6 weeks), physical installation (2–3 days), and TNB meter commissioning (1–2 weeks). ERS Energy manages the entire process end to end.
