Choose Your Financing Structure

Four ownership models to match your capital strategy. Each has different implications for cash flow, balance sheet, tax treatment, and maintenance responsibility.

Green Loan

Own the asset with minimal upfront capital. Repayments depend on loan size, tenor and rate; a longer tenor can bring the monthly payment closer to your electricity savings. GTFS 5.0 guarantee available.

Financing Comparison: 500 kWp Example

Illustrative monthly payment comparison for a 500 kWp system, generating about 625,000 kWh/year (1,250 kWh per kWp).

Cash Purchase Quoted after a site survey RM 0 ~RM 16,400 4.1–4.6 yrs (after GITA) Quoted after a site survey
Green Loan (3.5% assumed, 7 yrs) Bank-dependent RM 11,827–13,037 ~RM 16,400 Immediate (net +RM 3,401–4,611/month before GITA) RM 993,474–1.1M
Solar Lease (0.85%/month assumed, 15 yrs) RM 0 RM 7,480–8,245 ~RM 16,400 Immediate (net +RM 8,193–8,958/month) RM 1.3M–1.5M
PPA (20% below energy charge, assumed) RM 0 Per kWh (~RM 11,400/mo at this size) ~RM 16,400 Immediate (net about +RM 5,000/month) Usage-based

Figures are illustrative outputs of the ERS C&I incentive calculator for a 500 kWp system (NDMV General tariff, manufacturing profile; exported energy not credited). System cost is an internal range and is not published per kWp. Loan (3.5% p.a. assumed, 7 years), lease (0.85% of cost per month, 15 years) and PPA (20% below the NDMV energy charge) terms are indicative assumptions, not offers. The GITA tax saving of RM 126,720–139,680 is not reflected in the monthly figures. Illustrative estimate only, based on the stated assumptions and current published tariffs/incentives. Not a quotation or financial, tax or investment advice. Actual results depend on a site survey.

Financing by Business Size

Which Financing Fits Your Business?

Start with your situation. The right financing model follows naturally from your capital availability, balance sheet constraints, and strategic priorities. Payback, IRR and savings figures quoted below are estimates for reference only, not a quotation or offer.

If you…
Have available CAPEX and want maximum long-term returns
Cash purchase gives you the full project IRR over the system lifetime (about 17–30% on the NDMV General tariff in the ERS calculator). You claim the GITA allowance (60% of qualifying solar CAPEX at the 24% tax rate, via MGTC). For a 500 kWp system the calculator shows a payback of about 4.1–4.6 years after GITA.
payments Cash Purchase
If you…
Want to own the asset but preserve working capital
A green loan lets you own the system and claim GITA while spreading payments over 5–7 years. GTFS 5.0 provides a 60–80% government guarantee on the green component of the loan, which can help access to finance. At an assumed 3.5% p.a. over 7 years, a 500 kWp system has a repayment of about RM 11,827–13,037/month against about RM 16,400/month of electricity savings, so cash flow can be positive from the first month (before the GITA tax saving).
account_balance Green Loan
If you…
Need zero CAPEX and prefer an operational expense model
PPA means zero investment: ERS Energy installs, owns, and maintains the system on your roof. You buy solar power at a fixed rate below your current TNB tariff (indicative; our illustration assumes 20% below the NDMV energy charge). Typical 15–21 year contract with annual escalation of 1–2%. Ideal for tenants, businesses conserving CAPEX, or those who prefer predictable energy OPEX.
handshake PPA
If you…
Want off-balance-sheet treatment with predictable costs
A solar lease has fixed monthly payments and no maintenance burden. Typical 10–15 year terms, with early buyout at fair market value after year 5 (indicative). Accounting treatment depends on the lease terms; please consult your auditor.

Common Financing Questions

Answers to the questions finance directors ask most about C&I solar financing.

Can I claim GITA if I use a green loan instead of cash? expand_more

Yes. GITA applies to the asset owner, not the payment method. Whether you pay cash or finance through a green loan, you own the system and can claim the GITA allowance (60% of qualifying solar CAPEX; 100% for BESS). The only financing models where you cannot claim GITA are PPA or lease, as the asset is owned by ERS Energy in those cases.

Is there a minimum system size for GTFS financing? expand_more

GTFS 5.0 does not specify a strict minimum system size; participating banks set their own minimum loan amounts, so please check with the bank.

Can I switch from PPA to ownership later? expand_more

Most PPA contracts include a buyout option after a specified period (typically 5–7 years). The buyout price is based on the depreciated fair market value of the system at the time of purchase.

What maintenance is required, and who handles it? expand_more

Solar PV systems require minimal maintenance, typically panel cleaning 2–4 times per year and annual inverter inspections. For cash and loan purchases, ERS Energy offers O&M packages, priced on request. For PPA and lease models, all maintenance is included at no additional cost.
