Defining Projects in Our Portfolio

Four utility-scale builds, each shown with the engineering challenge of its project type and how the EPCC cycle — engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and O&M — was delivered.

Floating solar on a lake reserve

The engineering challenge

Seasonal water-level change means the mooring and anchoring system must accommodate variable depth without over-stressing floats or cables. Floats, cables and connectors must tolerate constant humidity and submersion, and installation becomes a logistics exercise of shore assembly and launching.

EPCC delivery cycle
  1. EngineeringBathymetry, mooring design and float layout
  2. ProcurementHDPE floats, marine-grade cabling and anchoring
  3. ConstructionShore assembly, launching and anchoring

The engineering challenge

Coastal sandy or soft ground affects pile embedment depth, corrosion class and drainage, and large civil works have to be scheduled around monsoon rainfall. Cable and combiner design and the medium-voltage run to the substation set the electrical losses.

EPCC delivery cycle
  1. EngineeringGeotechnical work, pile testing, layout and grid study
  2. ProcurementBulk modules, inverters and mounting
  3. ConstructionPiling, MV cabling and substation tie-in

Solar plus battery energy storage

The engineering challenge

The battery system must meet grid-code requirements for ramp rate, frequency response and voltage control, with PCS and battery containers spaced for thermal, fire and access separation. Controls integration between the PV inverters, PCS and the grid operator’s SCADA is the critical commissioning task.

EPCC delivery cycle
  1. EngineeringGrid-code studies, single-line design, fire and thermal layout
  2. ProcurementBattery containers, PCS and transformers
  3. ConstructionCivil pads, container placement and MV works

Solar farm with single-axis trackers

The engineering challenge

Trackers need tighter piling tolerance than fixed-tilt structures, so terrain grading, drive alignment and backtracking set-up are key steps. Rotating structures also add a wind-stow strategy and controller networking to commissioning.

EPCC delivery cycle
  1. EngineeringTerrain and tracker layout, wind study
  2. ProcurementTrackers, modules and controllers
  3. ConstructionPiling, torque-tube assembly and module installation
  4. CommissioningTracker calibration and stow test
